Some More Frost Pictures.

Ooops... I forgot to add these photos to one of the previous posts - from the day we went outside to see the frost. The frost crystals on the leaves was quite something!

Discovery Time.

As well as making soup this week at Discovery Time we also...created shoes to practise tying laces on, made owls, played with the wooden blocks, and played with the parachute outside.
Our focus was to share classroom equipment and to ensure everyone gets a turn.

Healthy Body......Healthy Mind

This term we have been learning how to keep a 'Healthy Body and a Healthy Mind....

The whole school put on a shared lunch for our parents in our individual class rooms. In Room 3 we made vegetable soup...and invited our parents to join us for lunch. We were able to tell our parents how we will keep a Healthy Body and a Healthy Mind.
"To help keep a Healthy Mind we need to have a Positive, Can Do Attitude'.
"To help keep a Healthy Body we need to make sure we get plenty of exercise and eat Healthy Food".

Frost Poems

This week we had some very heavy frosts at school and at our houses. We went outside and took a closer look at the frost around our school grounds. We then wrote some poems about what we could see, feel, taste and smell while out there. Some of our poems were then recorded using Puppet Pals on the iPads and others were typed up for others to read.

I see frost
I smell the air
I taste the frost
I feel the air
I wish the snow was coming.

Here's something you don't see every day!!

One of our Room 1 buddies came to school with a dead hawk....Quintin's dad had found the hawk in a paddock at his house and thought it must have been hit by a car. Anyway it's not every day you get a chance to get up front and personal with a hawk.... So we enjoyed the opportunity to look and touch the hawk, safely. The hawk's beak and claws were very pointy and sharp, and the feathers were extremely soft. We had a discussion about:
"Why the hawk would need to have such sharp claws and beak?"
Some of the children thought it would be so the hawk could eat tiny spiders easily. Others said it would be so he/she could catch the fish from the sea......then we thought about where we usually see hawks flying and discovered that we normally see them around paddocks and farms....so what are they looking for?  ahhhh....click! yet another wonderful learning opportunity.

Physical Education

This term we have been learning how to throw, catch, bounce and kick a ball. We had some great help from Matt who comes in to school every week to teach us the skills necessary to do these tasks well.

The Library

One of our most enjoyable activities while at school is when we go to the TDC Library. We travel to Richmond on the bus and get to enjoy a huge range of books with our friends. We then choose a couple of books, and use our very own library cards to get our books issued and take them home to enjoy them again with our parents. This is a time of discovering how amazing books are. I personally think these photos prove what a special time it is. I was so excited to see so many children engrossed in reading.
